The Christmas spirit is alive in the nation’s capital with the lighting of the Capitol Christmas tree earlier tonight.

 

Since 1964, the Architect of the Capitol has authorized placing a Christmas tree on the U.S. Capitol Grounds.

This year’s tree is a 79 foot Engelmann spruce or Picea engelmannii from Kootenai National Forest in Montana.

The lights on the Capitol Christmas tree are on daily from darkness to 11pm until January 1, 2018.
